Group Classes - 2016

  • Composition: Stephen Goss
Composers create wonderful masterpieces for performers. The compositional process is a study in itself; each new work can be a momentous event in a composer's life. Composers come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
  • Improvisation: Douglas Finch
The lost art of classical improvisation has seen a revival in recent years, due to the recognition of its vital importance to major composers of the past, who often became inspired to write down masterpieces, after partaking in sessions where they improvised freely.
  • Chamber music: Michael Dussek
When playing Chamber music, how you listen and react to your musical partner(s) is crucially important. The best chamber muician can retain his/her own musical personality, yet at the same be very creative and responsive. If you have brought along another instrument, you may bring it to this class.
  • Conducting: Jonathan Bloxham
Conducting can be very difficult, especially if you want to create wonderful music together with an ensemble of up to a 100 people. A conductor has to be a wonderful musician, a masterful communicator, but like a pianist, he/she needs to rely on a secure technique.
  • 'Sight-Reading, Memorization & Technique': Melanie Spanswick
Many people rate Sight-Reading and Memorization as possibly two of the most challenging aspects of their learning. To overcome these, one needs to look at these problems in a creative way, and to use insights from experienced Professionals.
  • 'The Baroque': Carole Cerasi
In this session, the students get a taste of what it is like for composers and performers before the age of the piano. Before the piano came along, composers conceived music differently, and were working with a different sense of aesthetics.
